Watonga Approves Power Sales Contract With OMPA
During the City of Watonga’s City Council meeting on May 4, council members unanimously approved entering into a power sales contract with the Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority (OMPA). Watonga will become OMPA’s 38th member city when the Authority starts supplying the city with wholesale electricity on November 1, 2011.
“We are pleased to have OMPA as our power provider. We considered several proposals and felt OMPA provided the best option for our community,” said Mayor Dale Green. Watonga with a population of approximately 3,500 is located 70 miles northwest of Oklahoma City and is the county seat of Blaine County.
Watonga Light and Water Commissioner Charlott Chandler added, “OMPA has proven to be a provider of dependable, affordable electricity and offers many services for the benefit of member municipal electric systems. I believe the citizens of Watonga will be well served by OMPA as their power supplier.”

The Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority (OMPA) is an agency of the State of Oklahoma that currently serves 37 municipal electric systems in Oklahoma.
