Town of Orlando Approves Power Sales Contract With OMPA
During the Town of Orlando’s Town Board meeting on June 14, trustees unanimously approved entering into a power sales contract with the Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority (OMPA). Orlando will become OMPA’s 39th member city when the Authority starts to supply the town with wholesale electricity in January 2011.
“We considered proposals from several power providers and reviewed each one carefully. We feel that OMPA is the best option for our community and we are looking forward to working with OMPA,” said Mayor Sam Jerome.
Orlando with an estimated population of 209 is located in Logan County.
“OMPA welcomes Orlando as our 39th member city and we appreciate the trust that the community leaders have shown by choosing the Authority as their power supplier. We are ever mindful of our Mission Statement that is at the core of our existence, ‘To provide reliable, low cost energy and services to municipal entities to enable each municipality to be competitive, while maximizing the benefits of our stakeholders,’” said OMPA General Manager Cindy L. Holman.
OMPA is a state governmental agency created by the legislature to serve cities and towns that own and operate their electrical distribution systems and is governed by the members. The Authority presently serves 37 municipally-owned electric systems in Oklahoma.
