Marlow’s Power to be Restored; Citizens asked to Conserve
Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) transmission crews and contractors plan to have the transmission service and distribution feed restored to Marlow, Oklahoma by next week. As a result of this schedule, two mobile generators are on the way to Marlow for operation so that some of the electrical system can be powered up. When the power is restored, City officials are asking Marlow residents to conserve to ensure that power requirement does not exceed the capacity of the temporary generation.
The rebuild of the PSO transmission lines that run north and south of Marlow will continue during this time and are expected to be completed sometime next week. At which time full power can be restored.
“We appreciate the efforts of PSO in their restoration work under very adverse conditions, and we further understand the need to restore power to the Marlow Distribution system, which was also heavily damaged in the ice storm. OMPA staff has been assisting the city in getting contract crews to make repairs to the distribution system and substation,” said Cindy Holmon, OMPA General Manager. City Manager Janice Cain wants to “reassure the citizens of Marlow that getting power restored to their electric system has been a number one priority for OMPA and the City. This has been an extremely hard time for the citizens of Marlow and we appreciate their patience for this last week, and we look forward to limited power being restored on Saturday.”
OMPA has been directing the repairs at the Marlow substation, which were completed today to allow the city distribution system to be powered up once the transmission service is restored. Marlow Electric Department has been directing the repair work on the distribution system which has had assistance from Ponca City, Okeene, Skiatook, Claremore, Sallisaw, Perry and Duncan electric departments.
OMPA is a state governmental agency created by the legislature to serve cities and towns that own and operate their electrical distribution systems and is governed by the members. The Authority presently serves 36 municipally-owned electric systems in Oklahoma.
