City of Purcell’s Remaining Municipal System Load Is Transferred To OMPA’s New Substation
The City of Purcell’s remaining municipal system load was transferred to the new 138/12.5 kV Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority (OMPA) Substation as of 12:30 pm this afternoon. Purcell Public Works Authority electrical crews with assistance from a substation relay technician from OG&E switched the remaining load off OG&E’s Walnut Creek Substation to OMPA’s new substation. This allows all city service to be removed from the OG&E owned substation at the south end of town to the OMPA owned substation, which is located just west of Interstate 35 and north of the Purcell Animal Shelter on West Adams Street.
OMPA’s Engineering Services staff worked with the Purcell Public Works Authority and OG&E on the construction of the new Purcell Substation, which has a capacity of 28 MVA.. EDG International, Inc. in Tulsa provided project support service for the construction of the substation. The substation includes three distribution circuits and modern relays with the option to expand by installing another transformer and three feeder circuits.
Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority (OMPA) is a joint-action agency created for the purpose of providing an adequate, reliable and affordable supply of electrical power and energy to Oklahoma’s municipally owned electric systems. The Authority presently serves 39 municipally owned electric systems in Oklahoma. As a consumer-owned public power entity, OMPA is owned by the member cities it serves, including Purcell.
