Wetumka City Manager Honored by Utility Association
Wetumka City Manager Pat Griggs was honored today at the annual meeting of the Municipal Electric Systems of Oklahoma (MESO) in Oklahoma City during the annual convention of the Oklahoma Municipal League. Pat was presented the Marvin Hicks/Al Middleton Meritorious Service Award for outstanding career contributions to an Oklahoma City or Town.
Griggs began work as city clerk in Wetumka in 1977 and assumed the role of city treasurer in 1980. She has for over 35 years performed administrative and accounting functions with distinction and provided a stable operations base for the city for that long period of time.
Last year she was promoted to the position of city manager where she has shown fine administrative abilities in the streetscape conversion that is remaking downtown Wetumka. The street project includes new sidewalks, paving, installation of LED street lights, undergrounding of certain facilities and work with the State of Oklahoma to relocate utility lines and drainage structures.
Pat is active in the community through her church and community affiliations including the Chamber of Commerce and enjoys time with her family and friends in those few moments she is not involved in community events.
Shane Woolbright, MESO General Manager, stated in the presentation of the award, “Continuity in local government is one of tremendous importance. For small cities, especially small cities without a significant commercial base, providing local government services is a major challenge. Pat has provided the City of Wetumka with such continuity and service for over 35 years, and we feel that it is important that people in Wetumka see what a fine public servant she has been.”
MESO is a trade association of over 110 municipal utilities located primarily in Oklahoma serving over 500,000 people with locally owned electric and natural gas distribution services. The association provides members with services including mutual aid in times of emergency, training for line workers and other utility personnel, and provides legal, regulatory, and legislative representation for its members. Located in Oklahoma City, MESO was chartered in 1971.
